AC repair signs that you should not ignore

A broken AC unit on a hot summer day is no less than a nightmare. Fortunately, in most cases, the broken unit can easily be fixed by a trained professional. However, to identify the problem in its early stage, we recommend you never ignore these signs:

AC blowing hot air instead of cold

If your unit is blowing hot air, you should check the thermostat to make sure it’s switched to cooling mode. If it’s still blowing warm air, there might be a problem with the airflow. A restricted airflow could also be a sign of a dirty air filter. Furthermore, a malfunctioning compressor could also be the one causing warm air.

The evaporator coil is frozen

A poor airflow may also lead to ice forming on the evaporator coil. This can cause your AC unit to freeze up and stop working. Several reasons like blocked vents, dusty filters, or a broken fan can cause troubles in the airflow required for the proper functioning of the AC unit.

Water is leaking from the AC unit

If your AC is leaking, it might be because of clogged or disconnected drain pipes. Other issues like an overflowing or cracked drip pan or frozen evaporator coils can also cause the water to leak from your unit.

Sometimes refrigerant, a cooling liquid used in ACs, can accumulate and leak into your home. Though not a common occurrence, refrigerant leaking could be dangerous. So it’s better to call ac repair technicians right away if you suspect even a minor leak.

AC giving off an unpleasant odor

Many people choose to ignore minor smells coming from their AC unit. This matter might seem unimportant but can soon turn into a stinky ordeal if not dealt with right away. Unpleasantly smelling AC might be due to dirty or clogged air filters, or even worse, due to a mold or fungus growth in your unit. Improperly drained moisture can provide a perfect breeding ground for the mold to grow.

AC making unusual noises

If you hear a loud thud, buzzing or hissing sounds coming from your AC unit it might be time to call for reliable AC repair service. Different problems can cause various noises coming from your AC like:

  • Rattling or buzzing noises indicate problems with the blower or a loose part.

  • The hissing sound may be due to a refrigerant leak

  • Screeching may signal a problem with the compressor or fan motor

These noises do not go away on their own and require expert attention.

High humidity inside

The evaporator coils are usually responsible for getting rid of the humidity. If your AC fails to dehumidify the house, you might want to check the coils. The evaporator coils work using the refrigerant to cool your house. A refrigerant leak or frozen coils might be the cause of high humidity.

If you notice any of these signs, don’t wait to call an ac repair technician before the problem snowballs into something gigantic. Zeeco Services LTD also recommends regular maintenance to prolong an AC unit’s life.
